Catching up.

First off, Lizzzygizzzy, time to check in. Ten days is far too long to go without at least giving us a casino/school/Brad's nose update.

Second off, OMG, Grizmom, I can't believe you've been a mother-in-law for a month now. Where does the time go???

My what a three-week term of court does for your sense of time, though. And how sweet the freedom is when it's over.

Friday afternoon wrapped up a three-week term for us, and Cinzel and I went out for a late lunch celebration. Where soon followed most of the DA's office and my judge. I tried to sink down in my seat so they wouldn't find us, but alas they were paraded right by us on their way to a group table.

So we did what any self-respecting court reporters would do...demanded to know why they hadn't invited US to their little end-of-term PARTY here.

Hubby had invited five members from his bowling league over for dinner Friday night, and when I got home I had to join him in cleaning house to get ready for it.

He grilled steaks and burgers, and we added baked potatoes and salads and corn-on-the-cob. One of the ladies brought a lemon cake. It was all delicious*, and the day was even sweeter when they all left around 9:30 and Hubby and I (highly unusual) washed dishes together and then sat out on the freshly cleaned patio. The lions were roaring, and we let the kids stay up much too late, playing on the swings (for Youngest Son) and practicing being an adult who doesn't "play" like that anymore (for Oldest Son).

(* Hubby grills the best steaks. I don't often order steak out anymore because I like his home-grilled ones so much better. But lately he has taken to "experimenting" all sorts of things, and they're just blah. I keep suggesting he go back to the original formula.)

One of the couples joining us is from Chalmette, and I really like them. The wife has lots of free time on her job, and she reads the Times-Picayune on the internet and keeps us up to date with all the New Orleans news. They're fun to have over. His dad lives with them too (lost his home also in Katrina), and I like him as well.

The other couple were very nice, but they're from here. I'm afraid we left them in the dark more than once, fixated as we all are on New Orleans happenings. The husband of that couple, though, knows our elderly gentleman deputy court clerk, so we talked about his family some. See, Cinzel, the connections are happening already. :)

Saturday morning we got up and got ready to leave for Baton Rouge fairly early. When the phone rang at 8:00, I figured it was my mother-in-law, making sure our plans were still on go. Nope, it was our builder, who is building a house right next door, and he was sending a plumber over to look at one of our toilets. It was installed with a penny under it for leveling (which our home inspector did not catch....hmmm...still wondering about that home inspection).

Anyway, the crew that handicap-readied that bathroom broke the toilet loose. (I think their painter stood on it.) Anyway, they've not been able to fix it, so the builder sent his plumber back to work on it some more. Turns out the flange is broken, so tomorrow afternoon the plumber will be back again. Oh, the fun times we have here.

***************************************

We did get to Baton Rouge Saturday, where it took all damn afternoon to buy MIL's car and her to pick up her new car. She sold us her old Camry (and the color is "sand". Basically no color, just like our van and our deer-stricken former Altima.) She bought herself a brand new shiny Camry. This time she picked out one in the color of...desert sand. The change is nil.

God. I'm so bored with that color. One day I am going to buy a burgundy Avalon like my mom's. I'd wait around to buy hers, but she drives them forever.

***************************************

Tomorrow starts nearly three weeks off for me before the next court term, and I have plenty to do. I'm heading for bed now so I can get up and run all kind of stray errands tomorrow.

Over and out.

Three weeks is great even if you have lots to do because you can do it on your own schedule when you are the boss of you.
