Recipe for Marital Disharmony

Ingredients:
One mother, displaced by Hurricane Katrina
One obnoxiously helpful husband
1. Talk to mother as often as communication problems allow, providing sypathetic ear only. Know fully well that mother is capable and more than willing to make decisions about her future plans all by herself.
2. Talk to husband about conversations with mother. Remind husband she/you are not asking for help, simply needing someone to talk with. Remind husband that mother is capable and more than willing to make decisions about her future plans all by herself.
3. Watch as husband applies his obnoxiously helpful behavior to the situation by seeking out JOB OPPORTUNITIES for mother in your city, full well knowing mother is NOT coming to your city.
4. Watch mother politely rebuff husband's suggestions AGAIN, then listen as she wonders why he is continuing to push her when she has stated several times she is not leaving where she is until she can go home.
5. Listen to husband rant and rave why mother will not take him up on his offers to help and believe that he knows everything there is to know about losing a home/things in a hurricane because his family lost everything in a hurricane when he was 13 and that does make him an expert even today, when he is 50 years old.
6. Vow to only listen to mother's anxiety and not mention anything else to husband. Suggest, in fact, that everything is fine, fine, fine when he inquires, so as to avoid yet another repeated conversation about why mother won't listen to him.
