Move this bed here and that bed there.

Our favorite game here this weekend: Moving furniture.

First we moved the bed out of Youngest Son's room upstairs to the new bedroom/office for Hubby. And instead of putting it in the open portion of that room, we put it in a little attic alcove that was originally designed for his computer desk. Anyone who knows my husband knows he has way more computer crap than would fit in that alcove, so now he basically has the bulk of the room to junk up with that stuff. The alcove was a perfect fit for the double bed, but not enough room for a nightstand, too, so we hung a four-foot long shelf on the wall for a makeshift nightstand, and also hung a wall lamp on the wall right above it. It's so cool...very cozy. The kids LOVE IT and wanted to sleep up there themselves last night.

Hubby wanted it to be dark in there, since he's working nights, and oh my God, y'all, it is a cave. We ran various tests last night, like opening and closing the garage door, listening for the TV downstairs, listening for me screaming at the kids (for true, sometimes I scream at my kids), and he said they all sounded very faint. We asked the builder to put in extra insulation around the room, and it sounds like they did a great job.

Today we moved up his computer desk, his shelves, his chair, various boxes of computer crap, etc. Unfortunately there are more boxes in the garage that still need to be moved, but we had to quit to start on Youngest Son's room.

Courtesy of Cinzel, we have a new bed in Youngest Son's room tonight (plus a new dresser and nightstand). We went to Wal-Mart to buy a mattress pad for it, and we happened upon a Superman comforter and sheet set, so of course we bought that, too. Both kids are so excited about that new bed, they're actually sleeping together in that bed tonight.

Oldest Son was jealous of Youngest Son's getting a new bedroom set today, but quickly backpedaled when we asked if he'd rather let Youngest Son have the set of bunk beds we ordered for his room. They should be here in three to four weeks.

We picked out the single bed over a double bed bunk set, just to have space for one more person to sleep, should we need it. It'll free up a lot of floor space in Oldest Son's room, plus I think it will be easy for my brother to get in and out of when he visits. Hubby laid down in it at the store, testing it out, and he thinks my brother will appreciate having a little leverage getting in and out of bed, via the bars on the upper bunk. Plus, how cool will sleepovers be for Oldest Son, having bunk beds? I always wanted some!!

I've been looking at bunk bed comforters online tonight, and I'm leaning towards ordering some. They're just like regular comforters, except they're fitted on the end, like fitted sheets, so the comforters stay in place. Huggers, I think they're called. Anyone have experience with these? I'm actually looking forward to Oldest Son not having a dust ruffle or a long bedspread on his bed, because that kid will shove the contents of his entire room under his bed, I swear. Now with the bunk beds, I'll be able to see it and start fussing immediately.

With all the furniture moving we've done this weekend, no bed is going to feel better tonight than MY bed!

Over and out.

As a kid, my two sisters and I shared a room with bunk beds and one single bed. We used to jump off the top one onto that single one. :) The only experience I had with bunk beds since were at the condo last summer on the beach. The Huggers sound fantastic!! Those were a bitch to make up trying to get in there and tuck everything in.
